A Look at Stage 4 Breast Cancer

Life saving early detection is the key to breast caner survival. Survival of Stage 4 breast cancer is significantly lower than if it is detected at earlier stages.
Breast cancer when it has advanced can spread to other tissue through out the body. This can include lung tissue, the liver, the brain and bone tissue. When breast cancer is first identified at Stage 4 it has inundated the body’s own ability to fight off the disease in order for it to have spread this far. According to the American Cancer Society when the disease is diagnosed this far advanced the 5 year survival rate may drop as much as sixteen to twenty percent.
The median survival for women who are diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer is about eighteen months after the time it is first diagnosed. According to the American Cancer Society women who survive five years after their diagnosis of advanced breast cancer can live an additional three and a half years beyond the median survival rate.
Probably due to lack of health insurance and poverty almost five percent of caucasian women in the United States have advanced breast cancer that has spread to other tissue at the time they are first diagnosed. For black women this number is nearly doubles to nine percent that are diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer.
It is important when women are diagnosed with this disease to get second and third opinions. New methods of treatment are being developed continually. Patients need to gain as much information as possible about new treatments for this disease. Stage 4 breast cancer is the most deadly class of the disease. Patients need to work closely with their health care providers for success in their treatments.
The most significant factor in breast cancer survival is having early detection. When the disease is detected while it is till limited to the breast at Stage 1 the survival chances are very high at ninety eight to one hundred percent. Survival rates drop to sixteen to twenty percent for metastasized breast cancer if it is first detected at Stage 4.
Women who are in good health beginning at the age of twenty years until forty years of age should have clinical breast exams performed once every three years by their health care providers. Regular self examinations should be done at the same time each month as an early detection practice. Breast exams should take place routinely each year after women reach forty years of age. This exam should include a mammogram or equivalent procedure.

In this case it was Djarum that was doing its best in Hungary to have their brand settled in the local market. Whether the clove-cigarette-producer will be able to build a brand as strong as it is in Indonesia, I can't tell, but would having women with their breasts bared have any positive impact in this entire story?
However baring breasts is not such a big deal for a portion of Indonesians - especially youngsters, check a random internet cafe and walk through the 'my pictures' and 'my download' folders - there is still a big taboo on everything that is just slightly bare or sexy in one way or another. It is normal that people are dressed in any form when they hit the road, shoulders and knees generally covered as well. Of course not all live according to those unwritten rules; that would be pretty boring as well. Wearing tight-fitting clothing is seen as modern here as well and generally that doesn't cover up too much. Not many people seem to have a problem with that, even not with the holy month of fasting rapidly approaching.
Here in Indonesia no bare breasts, at least not in public. Behind closed doors here too a hidden world opens up, but will stay hidden to most people. It is to be assumed that at certain levels and areas there is simply no boundary or whatsoever. Earlier the release of the book 'Jakarta Undercover - about the biggest sex-industry in Southeast Asia, Jakarta - caused pretty much of a stir here. The front all seems nice, pretty and obedient, but at the back side you will find the real Jakarta - but just as well any other place in Indonesia - which is much more free than people here are willing to see and show as the biggest Muslem country in the world.
It is not that strange that Djarum is experimenting with means of advertisement that are not allowed in Indonesia. However, is that really so? What exactly is the difference between a body painted lady with bare breasts and just some small piece of underwear over her ass and a better-dressed lady in tight pants and bright-orange tank top which fits her breasts the best? If you ask me, the Indonesian way of acting; that 'meek' but oh so superficial way, much more attractive than that simple 'European' way of advertising. Why does it all have to be that direct? Certain things can much better be brought in a more subtle way. Eventually the target is as clear as what; attracting men which will start smoking a pack of those clove-cigarettes a day.
Obviously it is women that are used for this kind of actions. A majority of smokers still is male, so means of advertisement from the other gender are used to make it more attractive. In Europe they use as little cloth as possible. Straight to the target with two breasts in your face just to get you started with smoking. As a male I wouldn't even do any effort to look for more than just that direct style of advertising. Of course some people will say 'You are out of your mind', but like I said before it is much more attractive to have a decently dressed woman in front of you which is trying to sell you the same lethal stuff? They are able to repackage a pack of cigarettes as 'tasteful' and 'not really unhealthy' as well, so why can't they just do the same with the women?
It would be even better if Djarum was smart enough to put some of those properly dressed Indonesian women in a plane to Hungaria. That is much more of a good advertisement for Djarum and Indonesia than just those local women? Unfortunately not a single person working at Djarum seems to see that. Or maybe they changed plans when they had arrived in Europe and saw the new possibilities there? Still I think Indonesia has more than enough to offer for whatever Indonesian company that wants to advertise itself abroad. A little bit of nationalism - have an open mind about that - is not bad at all.

Love and Death in Fantasyland

The neighborhood is starkly splendid. Luxury homes stand cheek by jowl in proud, pretentious rows. Identical double garage doors stare down identical concrete drives. They give the street an industrial flavor. Entry doors and upstairs windows feature variations on a single great-big-fancy-house theme. Each house has its own pool in a lofty screen-room at the back. Each has a newly installed lawn in front. There are no trees. The mailboxes all match. They wait, like uniformed prison guards, for mail that never comes for families who will never occupy the MacMansions of this eerie Orlando, Florida subdivision.
Nearly all the houses are empty. Tourists like us occupy a few. One in five is for sale. Walking the neighborhood our first night I think of the Stepford Wives. Blue alien eyes with glowing white pupils watch me and my clueless canine companion, Fluffy, from behind drawn curtains. Fluffy the guard poodle leaves a personal memento of his visit on one of the identical lawns. I consider retrieving it as I would in an inhabited neighborhood. But we are in an opulent wilderness. I leave it without guilt. Nobody lives here.
I’m visiting this strange land with my family, brothers, sisters, mom and kids. We’ve gathered in rented magnificence to see my baby sister for what will probably be the last time. She is here with her family through an act of kindness by a final-wish foundation. The foundation is paying for her trip from Utah.
My sister’s three children are the perfect age to enjoy the wholesome deceptions of Disneyworld. My sister is here to indulge her children in kindly illusion. She is here to bless the family she grew up in with her courage and grace for one last Christmas. My sister has no illusions. She is dying of cancer at age 40. She has fought it for many years with determination, fortitude, courage and irrepressible good humor. The fight is in the final rounds. She is way ahead on points but the knockout is inevitable.
What better place for gentle deceptions and dreams of happy endings than the city that sprung up like a forest of magic beanstalks around Disneyworld? We are here to amuse and fool her children and ours. We are here to confirm the truths that exist in fairy tales.
When we first see her she is walking around, smiling, tending the kids. Hey, wow, she’s not sick! She’s fine. She makes cancer jokes. She’s the same bright girl we’ve always known. She cracks wise about her disease like it’s a slimy stalker, a bumbling loser who can’t get over her and won’t leave her alone. He sends twisted love letters. He peeks in between the curtains at night. God, what a creep. Where is he, Meg? Just point him out. Uncle Brian and I will have a little talk with him. We’ll make sure he doesn’t bother you.
But we can’t get rid of him. He doesn’t show his face while we’re around. Megan looks fine. But she needs a lot of hardware to keep this guy away. Special gear. Special drugs. Needles. Lots and lots of pills. Pill bottles like lures in a tackle box. She has to sit down pretty soon. Pretty soon again she’s shivering. Too soon she has to go back to her room.
We don’t talk about the creep. We wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. We’re here in fantasyland to celebrate the eternal truths, not to glorify the bad guys. But in this fairy tale brothers can’t fight for the princess. Cinderella had help. Snow White had seven tough little guys looking out for her. The hunters who got such a bad rap in Bambi were heroes for Little Red Riding Hood. With a little help, fairy tale heroines all lived happily ever after. It doesn’t seem right. The creep makes a nuisance of himself. My sister is in the hospital half the time now.
My sister’s too weak to come along when aunts and uncles take the kids to World after World. We trudge from ride to ride like serial lovers wandering between bad romances. Each time the anticipation is long and painful, the act trying and ridiculous, the pleasure fleeting and unsatisfying. If Dante had visited a theme park the Inferno would have had a level known as Hell World. The kids seem to enjoy it. On the way home the game of 20 questions is hilarious. Nobody guessed Aaron, 10-year old Eli’s first grade pen pal from Connecticut. The goat joke brings down the house. I have to pull over. I’m laughing too hard to drive.
Home again the creep has his muddy boots on the sofa. He ignores our threats. Our sister is back in the hospital. We know the creep will be leaving soon with her worn out body. We can’t scare him off. That’s all he’ll get, though. Her kids, her courage, her laughs and her love stay here with us, happily ever after.
